INFO

Athanasia Dekouli was born in 1996 in Greece and currently lives and works in Sweden. She is now completing an MFA in Crafts – Textile Art at HDK-Valand in Gothenburg.

Working across textile art and installation, she uses reclaimed materials and techniques like sewing, knitting, and embroidery to explore how memory and belonging shift through the lived reality of migration. Her work often returns to the textile knowledge passed down through generations of women in her family.

More recently, she has been immersing herself in the newly encountered world of natural dyeing, through which she is recovering an elemental relationship with nature, with what it means to be a human, and with how we come to belong somewhere.

Her practice also moves into participatory work and collective storytelling, as well as stage and costume design and textile installations made in dialogue with performance.
